"Gears of War 3" Ignites Anticipation as the Biggest Blockbuster Game of 2011
Explosive finale to the landmark "Gears of War" trilogy available exclusively on Xbox 360 in April 2011
LONDON – 13 April 2010 - The spectacular conclusion to one of the games industry’s most memorable and celebrated sagas, “Gears of War 3,” is poised to take the world by storm next spring. At this time next year, fans around the world will experience the epic story finale to the “Gears of War” trilogy when the third instalment in one of the biggest franchises in Xbox history arrives in stores April 8, 2011 in Europe.

“When we released ‘Gears of War’ more than three years ago, we set out to tell the world an unforgettable story of bravery and sacrifice in the face of insurmountable odds, and a year from now, players will get the chance to experience the final chapter in the story of Marcus Fenix and his companions in Delta Squad,” said Cliff Bleszinski, Design Director at Epic Games. “This is definitely the biggest and most dramatic chapter yet in the ‘Gears of War’ saga, and we can’t wait to deliver it.”

Developed by acclaimed studio Epic Games and available only on Xbox 360, “Gears of War 3” plunges players into a harrowing tale of hope, survival, and brotherhood that will conclude the current story arc for “Gears of War.” With the last human city destroyed and the remaining survivors stranded, time is running out for Marcus and his comrades as they fight to save the human race from the jaws of extinction.

“Gears of War” is a blockbuster entertainment franchise that has inspired a full line of toys and collectibles, apparel, an upcoming film, graphic novels and a book series by New York Times best-selling author Karen Traviss. The award-winning video games have sold more than 12 million units worldwide, and due to their riveting multiplayer action, are some of the most popular games ever played on Xbox LIVE.

To accompany today’s announcement, Microsoft and Epic Games unveiled “Ashes to Ashes”, the first trailer for “Gears of War 3.” Created in Unreal Engine 3 by the same team behind the iconic “Gears of War” video spots (“Mad World,” “Rendezvous,” and “Last Day”), the video captures a desperate three-way battle between Delta Squad, the Locust Horde, and the fearsome new Lambent.

Additionally, fans who want to share their excitement on Xbox LIVE will be able to choose from new Avatar items, available on Avatar Marketplace starting April 20, including the new COG armor introduced in “Gears of War 3.”

PoP Forgotten Sands Delayed by 3 Days...

Ubisoft has announced today that the upcoming Prince of Persia game, has been delayed by three days... this means that it will miss the games scheduled release date of May 18 and be pushed back to May 21.

Somehow I think fans will manage compared to what they had to suffer due to Splinter Cell: Conviction's multiple delays. It also hardly compares to the wait for Duke Nukem or Axel Roses new album.

Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands is currently set to come out on Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Wii and DS. For more news closer to release date be sure to check back at Game Attic

Screens for Lost Planet 2 are deliciously great

Capcom has released some new screens for Lost Planet 2 from episodes 1 and 3.

The screens show off the new and improved Energy Gun, which according to Capcom can “still kick a pilot out of his V-Suit”, and tweaks made to it will open up new strategies.

Speaking of the V-Suit, according to the game’s producer, Jun Takeuchi, it allows you to take weapons off of or put others onto it, and it also has the ability to transform or merge with other VS.

Lost Planet 2 releases on May 11.

Although very few details have been released Zombie Studios, the developer, promised one of the most horrifying and intense games to date. Saw 2 will ship in Autumn on Xbox 360 and PS3.

Crysis 2 reveal trailer and images

Its been a big week for Crysis 2. Earlier this week in New York, where the game itself is set, developers Crytek premiered the sequel to one of the most goregeous looking PC games of all time, including showing off some footage and other gameplay. Today, we have the first reveal trailer which you can see below, as well as some artwork from the game.

The guys over at VG247 have a massive write up and other bits and bobs about the game, that you should totally check out.

The video we have shows the counter attack against an Alien force that has attacked NYC, including some pretty vicious looking sods, with pearcing red eyes. And in the background, a rather somber cover version of Frank Sinatra's 'New York, New York'. Yes, I had a tear.

The game is out on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC towards the end of this year, and its shaping up to be a cracker.

Oh and yes, the video plays automatically. So don't get freaked out. You've been told.

Splatterhouse remake to get all 3 16-bit versions with it

The upcoming remake of the classic gorefest Splatterhouse, will see its predecessors released with it.

Splatterhouse 2 and 3, which were originally on the Sega Megadrive, will be re-released alongside the remake which ships later this year. Also, the first game, which was released in Japanese Arcade's will also in be included.

No set date for either the remake or the classic set, but they are coming this year to PS3 and 360.

Gears of War 3 coming April 2011

Yes, in typical gaming style, the cat has been let out of the bag early.

An advert on the Xbox 360 dashboard seems to reveal Gears of War 3, and a date of April 2011.

Gears designer, Cliff Bleszinski was meant to reveal his next project on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon last night, but was knocked back a week by some spotty teenager. Someone at Microsoft obviously forgot to can the advert before the game was officially revealed!

So there we have it. We knew it was all coming, just not in this way. Classic.

We'll wait and see what Microsoft have to say. This could get interesting. Thanks, Kotaku.

Unconfirmed: Gears of War 3 Details Emerge

Details of Epic Games' Gears of War 3 are appearing ahead of Design Director, Cliff Bleszinski's appearance on American chatshow Late Night with Jimmy Fallon; in which he is expected to reveal the game.

The details reveal a new and rather shaken up gameplay, which include underwater fight scenes, and new tentacle equipped Locust capable of negating your cover; a game altering factor.

Also hinted at was a new weapon that fires a rocket capable of burrowing underneath enemies. Which is likely to be a heavy weapon. To the chagrin of fans, it was also announced that the COG's would make use of a mechanized suit, which is presumably heavily armed as well.

The game is apparently set in the Summer, which gives the developer opportunity to use the recently upgraded Unreal engine, in which the quality of foliage has greatly been increased.

F.E.A.R. 3 Xbox 360 Announcement Trailer

To go with the announcement of F.E.A.R 3, DAY 1 Studios have released a trailer. Enjoy the F.3.A.R

F.E.A.R. 3 gets all official

Warner have today announced F.E.A.R. 3 "officially" for an Autumn 2010 release.

This time around the horror, first-person-shooter gets what is described as "divergent co-op".
Alma returns in F.E.A.R. 3 but this time her sons Point Man and Paxton Fettel introduce divergent co-op, giving players distinctly different abilities affecting their own play as well as the experience of their co-op partner. Gamers participate in single player or co-op modes as Point Man, a genetically enhanced super soldier originally introduced in F.E.A.R., or they can play cooperatively as his conniving brother Paxton Fettel, whose incredible telekinetic power has given him life beyond the grave.
Add to this the help of legendary horror director John Carpenter (Halloween, Village of the Damned) and critically acclaimed horror comic and script writer Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) and we have what's shaping up to be a very good game.

MW2 Stimulus Package DLC is record breaker

When Modern Warfare 2's first DLC pack, "The Stimulus Package", was announced - it made the people of the gaming community angry. "Why should we pay 1200MS points for just 3 new maps?!" they cried.

Well it seems that, as usual, they chose not to vote with their wallet. Activision today announced that the DLC broke Xbox LIVE records by selling over 1 million times in the first 24 hours and over 2.5 million times by the end of the first week. Another successful boycott then..

Split/Second multiplayer vids are up, super amazing

Two new multiplayer videos of the upcoming Black Rock Studios title Split/Second: Velocity are doing the rounds, and by George, they look pretty good.

The videos show the Airport which is based in the City, one of the many locations in the game the player can cause mayhem in.

The game puts the player at the centre of a Reality TV show, where the idea is basically to cause as much carnage and destruction as you can and rack up points as you do it.

Check out the videos below, or read the full article over on 1UP.

The game is out on PS3, 360 and PC on May 21.

Alan Wake gets pushed forward in the EU

Remedy has announced their upcoming Xbox 360 thriller will now be coming to the UK and Europe on May 14.

The game was originally set for a release on May 21 in Europe with a US release on the 18th. The US date will remain the same, giving users in the UK and Europe a four day head start over our friends across the pond.

May 21st is also the day two other big titles are set to hit the shelves in the PAL region, Red Dead Redemption and Split/Second, so shifting Alan Wake earlier here makes sense.

PR below.

ALAN WAKE STEPS INTO THE LIGHT EARLY IN EUROPE
The psychological action thriller, exclusive to Xbox 360, will be in stores across Europe from 14th May
LONDON – 7 April 2010 – Microsoft is delighted to announce that Alan Wake will be hitting stores across Europe on Friday 14th May – a full week ahead of its original release date.
“Fans in the UK have been crying out to get their hands on Alan Wake since it was first announced and we’re thrilled to be able to deliver it to them early,” said Stephen McGill, Director, Xbox & Entertainment, Microsoft UK.
In this long-awaited title, exclusive to Xbox 360, players assume the role of Alan Wake, a best-selling crime writer suffering from writer’s block, who escapes to a small town only to experience the mysterious disappearance of his wife. An intense psychological thriller from Remedy, the creators of Max Payne, Alan Wake looks to raise the bar for future games, creating a true cinematic experience.
Rated BBFC 15, Alan Wake will be available for an estimated retail price of £49.99.

Bad Teeth? Stop playing games

According to some new research that was presented during the Annual Meeting of the American Association for Dental Research, eating snacks while playing computer games can lead to bad oral health.

Although, I'm not sure why it's only while playing games that snacking causes bad oral health. I'm sure it's not any better to snack while watching a movie.

The study was carried out by observing 12-16 year olds, and resulted in the finding that those who are 'addicted' to video games are more likely to get bad oral health. It also found that the worst health belonged to the teenagers who had 'no parental restrictions on screen time'.

Sounds like video games are being used as a scape goat once again.

MW2 Stimulus package refund - of sorts

Kotaku is reporting some of their readers who downloaded the MW2 Stimulus Package on Day 1 are getting refunds for their troubles. Well, not any monetary refunds, but 7 free days of Xbox Live on top of their current subscription.

The message, sent over Xbox Live reads: "To thank you for your loyalty to Xbox LIVE and for buying the Modern Warfare 2 Stimulus package on day 1, we will extend your Gold membership for 7 more days of adrenaline-pumping action with your friends on LIVE. Your account will be updated by May 1."

As you know, the release of the package on Xbox Live was pretty much a total mess, sparking off many complaints from unhappy MW2 players who were still concerned about the DLC's high price.

So, any first day Stimulus users keep an eye on your inbox.
Thanks, Kotaku.

What could have been: Duke Nukem Forever footage leaked

It was in development longer than the Apollo Space Program, used several game engines and has been awarded the Vaporware award on several occasions. Yet the game has never seen the light of day. Welcome, to the world of Duke Nukem Forever.

Last week we had the news that the game would of gone gold last Thursday, and today we have some footage and screen shots of the latest and possibly last build of the game.

Even though it was in the making for so long, it was apparently finally laid to rest last year when developer 3D Realms closed. However, Take Two still own the IP, so there is a possible future for the Duke Nukem name, but perhaps not this baby.

Check out the goodies below, and salute what could of been. Also, check out a few more screens over at AGB.

Call of Duty 7, What We Know.

The game doesn't even have a release date, but that hasn't stopped Call of Duty 7's Mulitplayer Design Director, David Vonderhaar, posting a few chunks of information on the games forums. The information was found in a discussion about killstreaks, yet it talks about all aspects of multiplayer.

  • It is highly likely the Commando perk will not make a return, the developers were not a fan of it.
  • They tried a version of the sentry gun kill streak, which had to be manned, they weren't impressed by it either.
  • The team really disliked having shotguns and machine pistols as secondary weapons, they felt it gave the player too much firepower. It is likely only pistols and launchers will return.
  • The knife or some version of a knife may also become a secondary weapon.
  • The nuke will not return, the team did not like it.
  • Custom killstreaks will likely return.
This is all the information that could be taken from Davids posts, he says releasing this information is in support of Treyarchs' ethics regarding the community and listening to feedback.

Green Day: Rock Band Contains Entire American Idiot Album

Are you preparing to rock out this summer to some of Green Days greatest hits? Well if you are I have some good news for you the whole Green Day American Idiot album will be included with the game.

Just to clarify this means you will be able to rock out to songs like Boulevard of Broken Dreams, St. Jimmy and the nine minute long Jesus of Suburbia. Which is a relief to hardcore Green Day fans who feared only american idiot would be added.

This is the first time Harmonix has ever included a whole album in one of their Rock Band games.

“We wanted to have the entire ‘American Idiot’ album in the game,”Chris Foster, project lead, told G4. “It’s like one album that’s meant to be heard and played as one unit. So you have the ability to do that. It’s the first time we’ve shipped any game with a full album involved in it.”

Green Day: Rock Band is released on the 8th of June for Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii

Rockstar plan its biggest advertising campaign ever for Red Dead Redemption

Neil Stephen, Rockstar’s UK general manager, has said that Red Dead Redemption is its 'most ambitious game ever' and revealed that the marketing push for it is the firm’s biggest yet.

Speaking with MCV in its weekly online edition, Stephen revealed that adverts for the western will be seen in movie theaters as well as popular websites such as YouTube.

"This is our most ambitious game to date and our biggest UK release this year. We are spending a larger proportion of our TV budget pre-launch than we ever have before to ensure Red Dead Redemption is established as a massive triple-A title.

For the first time as a company, we will be running an on-screen cinema advertising campaign. We think that the cinematic nature of the game makes it a perfect fit for the cinema, and we will be executing a nationwide ad campaign targeting the audiences of Robin Hood, Iron Man 2, and Prince of Persia."

Foyer posters will also support the campaign, allowing customers to download content from the game via Bluetooth. Deals have been signed with the likes of Gamespot, IGN, Microsoft, LoveFilm and YouTube for free movie downloads and Xbox LIVE content.

"The game has garnered an incredibly positive reception from the gaming and lifestyle press with many outlets placing Red Dead Redemption as a possible game of the year contender," he further added.

"In terms of sales projections, we are aiming high and as such are focusing more attention on retail channels than ever before. Once the game is released we expect that word of mouth and our massive launch media campaign will propel the game to excellent sales."

Dead Space 2 will 'scare the pants off you'

According to Visceral producer Rich Briggs, the next installment of Dead Space will 'scare the pants off you.'

Speaking to G4, here's what he had to say:-

"It was 100 percent white-knuckle tension and we did a lot of research following claims that certain people never even listened to the logs sometimes because they were so scared of something jumping out at them from a dark corner. We don’t want people to be sacrificing their understanding of the story and their enjoyment of the environment because they’re always so scared.

We are still gonna be a horror game, yes, we are still Dead Space, we’re gonna scare the pants off you as many times as we can, but Issac’s been through this before, so he’s a little bit more capable this time around, he’s going to have some times where he can actually have an epic moment and it is like a rollercoaster ride."

Dead Space 2 is due to come out within the first three months 2011.
